Can Can Girls at Bastille Day Tribeca
Bastille Day in New York is chock full of great events. We prefer whats happening downtown  and recommend a Tricolor of pit stops for your revolutionary merriment! First, take a half day off from work and head to Tribeca around 2pm. West Broadway at Walker transforms into an outdoor celebration of French culture (circa 1920 of course)! Petanque, Can-Can Girls, hot jazz, foosball, and Ricard pastis is the perfect way to spend an afternoon. Then head to the East Village for more jazz and Lost Generation festivities courtesy of Dandy Wellington and the Made to Measure Band. If you still have your head, cap it off with the green faerie at 1534 in SoHo with a plethora of Absinthe cocktails. Dance in the streets and don't forget to sing your heart our when La Marseillaise comes on! Allons enfants de la Patrie!!

An Homage to Harlem Glamour is reincarnated for one night in a four-story Soho townhouse. Harlem was, at the frenzied height of the Jazz Age, the Mecca of all that swung, shook and shimmered. At once an emblem of status and taboo, sophistication and lust, it was a cocktail of well-heeled “high hatters” in search of a deviant thrill mixed with the exotic, jazz-fueled pulse of Harlem night culture.

Starring acclaimed bandleader

Michael Arenella and His Dreamland Orchestra

Featuring

Queen Esther – renowned chanteuse with piano-man Jesse Gelber
Gin Minsky – adorable flapper-tapper
Ginger Brown - Burlesque songbird
Roddy Caravella and the Harlem Glamour Revue

Bootlegger 21 New York Vodka cocktails crafted by Fredo from Loungerati.com and Miguel Aranda of Apotheke.

Destinations: Speakeasy at 1220 Fifth Avenue Wed Aug 4th

The skinny:
Our friends at Club Wit's End are teaming with the Museum of the City of New York to present the "Speakeasy at 1220 Fifth Avenue" from 6 until 9pm. Featuring Michael Arenella and His Dreamland Orchestra. Hot jazz! Vintage Cocktails! Dancing!

The featured cocktail is the:
Japanese Cocktail:
2 oz Cognac
1/2 Orgeat syrup
3 dashes of Angostura bitters

Stir ingredients well with cracked ice, then strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a twist of lemon peel.
Spirits impresario David Wondrich calls it “Perhaps the only drink in Jerry Thomas’s "How to Mix Drinks" actually invented by him.” It’s the Japanese Cocktail, and they will be serving it to coincide with the newest museum exhibit.

The museum exhibit, “Samurai in New York,” is about the Japanese delegation to the United States in 1860, and the Japanese Cocktail was actually invented to commemorate the delegation's visit to New York City (they stayed in hotel not far from Jerry Thomas’ bar on Broadway).

Say "Wit's End" sent you, you will get in for only ten dollars and admission will include a free drink ticket.

My word not good enough for youse? Well, Bloomberg also suggests this as a great Wednesday night Destination:

"Tonight at the Speakeasy at 1220 Fifth Ave, say "Wit's End" sent you and get in for only $10 (includes a free cocktail)!http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-08-04/matisse-and-martinis-mix-well-as-n-y-museums-open-bars-after-5.html"

Barfly's Beat: A Montauk Club Affair

Fredo rolling Park Slope Cocktails
Loungerati's resident cocktailian Fredo joined jazz crooner Michael Arenella and his Dreamland Orchestra providing entertainment for the Montauk Club's First Thursday event. The Montauk Club is a private social club based on 8th Avenue in Park Slope. The Club was founded in 1889 and has remained a private club since its founding. The magnificent Club House was designed by the famed New York architect Francis H. Kimball, who was inspired by a palace on Venice’s Grand Canal. The Club House was completed in 1891 and its Venetian gothic architecture, carved mahogany woodwork and beautiful stained glass windows remain its signature features.

Fredo was stationed at the vintage wood bar making drinks in the historic Oak Room. The cocktail menu included summer favorites such Pimms Lemonade, a "bathtub" Gin Rickey with Hendrick's Gin and muddled cucumber, a St. Germain & Champagne apertif, and an ode to the neighborhood called The Park Slope (Rye, Apricot brandy, Punt a Mes, bitters). While Fredo kept the Montauk members thirst quenched, Michael Arenella and his band played roaring 1920s jazz while visiting jitterbugs, like Kristen Minsky of the tap dance sensations the Minsky Sisters, cut a rug. What a way to say goodbye to summer!
